The total lunar eclipse of June 15 2011 will be visible over Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. *
The penumbral eclipse -- the least exciting, and hardest to see part -- will begin at 17:23:05 UT and end at 23:02:15 UT. It will be visible from south-east Asia and Australia when it begins around Moonset, then south Asia and most of Africa, and finally Europe and parts of South America as it ends at around Moonrise. While subtle, the penumbral phases should be visible before and after the partial eclipse as a shading across the Moon.
The partial eclipse will begin at 18:22:37 UT and end over 3½ hours later at 22:02:35 UT, and will be visible from a slightly smaller area. The total eclipse lasts for over 1½ hours; it begins at 19:22:11 UT and ends at 21:03:02 UT, with the moment of greatest eclipse at 20:12:37 UT. It is visible over Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
The total eclipse should be a spectacular sight; the Moon will be well within the Earth's shadow, the umbral magnitude being 1.705, and should be deeply coloured by the Earth's atmosphere. Don't miss it!
